In early May, Mount Allison’s Psychology department hosted the 31st Annual APICS (Atlantic Provinces Council on the Sciences) Undergraduate Psychology conference. The conference is hosted annually by an Atlantic university and showcases the research of Honours and Directed Studies students from universities throughout the region.
Among the 50 oral presentations and 32 poster presentations given by students, 12 Mount Allison students presented their work. We congratulate Jillian Fraser and Sarah Miles for the awards they each received! Jillian, a third-year Directed Studies student, won for best poster presentation for her project "When mothers read to their children: Making the most of a learning experience". Sarah, a graduating Honours student, won an honourable mention for her oral presentation entitled "The effects of handedness of gesture on the fluency of speech." |

"My participation in the APICS conference in Psychology was the perfect
conclusion to my time at Mount Allison. I presented my honours thesis, which
was the most in-depth project I undertook in my four years at Mount Allison.
The APICS conference was the first time I was able to share my work with people
outside of the Mount Allison University community. Just as enjoyable as
presenting my own work was having the opportunity to hear about the work being
done by students at other universities. Topics ranging from the schooling
behaviour of tadpoles to the quality of a home school education to the the
processing of sarcasm left me feeling excited about the importance of psychology
in all aspects of life."
