From Mount A to Smith College
Bridget Arsenault, English Literature (Halifax, Nova Scotia)

Through the Killam Fellowship, valued at over $10,000 US, Mount Allison English student Bridget Arsenault attended Smith College, an all-women’s college in Northampton, MA.

"I’ve never been one to pass up a new experience, and when I heard about the Killam Fellowship exchange program I jumped. I made my way down to Smith, a women’s college in Northampton Massachusetts last August, and I haven’t looked back since. While on campus I’ve tried to participate in everything a well- accomplished Smith girl should, I paddled around the Smith Pond, served tennis matches across the athletic field courts, recited poetry at the five college slam, attended Friday afternoon teas, and conversed with College President Carol Christ at the fireside chats. I joined the equestrian team, spread my sound at the radio station WOZQ, and found my voice with the campus weekly, The Sophian. I have to admit being slightly intimated at the prospect of attending a women’s college, but I left fearless. I spent a year interacting with, engaging with, and learning from a campus full of voracious females. Now I pack my bags to head to New York City to work on Wall Street as a music publicist, an experience of a lifetime, and an opportunity I would never have actualized without my year at Smith."
