SURF’S Up at Mount Allison's Science Research Fair

"Whether they are presenting or observing, SURF is a wonderful opportunity for students to be exposed to scientific research. In its fourth year, SURF has become a well-known event on campus that is ideal for first-time researchers who wish to tryout their presentation skills or for experienced presenters to refine their techniques. It showcases the work that summer research students from all scientific disciplines have done over the past four months in a formal environment. We’re really excited for this year's fair and expect another great afternoon of information and entertainment!"

"Surf offers undergraduate students the rare opportunity to experience peer review of scientific research—real research shared by real researchers. For many of the participants, it is the first public presentation to an academic audience. Events like SURF promote higher, well-rounded learning by encouraging presenters to step out of their comfort zone and bring an interesting research topic to the public, providing for both formal and creative outlets. In short, SURF is just awesome."

Markus Baker, 2006 SURF co-organizer, Physics (Lake Echo, Nova Scotia)
