In March, Mount Allison Classics professors and students invited children from Sackville and the region to take a closer look at water use and management throughout the ages. Both academic in nature and emphasizing community outreach, the afternoon workshop built on a class project where the students recreated ancient technology, tested it, and reported on its effectiveness. Students had the opportunity to learn about the many uses of water in the ancient world; the testing of a Greek water-clock and an Archimedes screw (an ancient water-lifting device); finding out how Romans supplied their cities with water; learning about some of the challenges Greeks and Romans faced in conserving water; and learning more about what each of us can do to protect this valuable resource. |

"I really enjoyed participating in the water workshop at Mount Allison. It was a great opportunity to meet new people, learn new things,
and work with a group of very energetic kids. On top of that, it was probably the most fun project I've worked on in my four years as a
university student! Working on this co-curricular project gave me a great chance to develop a number of skills that I've found helpful and
important in both an academic setting and outside of the university community — such as leadership skills, team work, organization, time
management, and decision-making."
