Susan Rogers
Hometown: Fergus, Ontario, but I’ve lived overseas
a lot, so it’s complicated!
Area of Study: Second Year Biochemistry
Interests: Skating, travel, human rights, crazy diseases,
coffee.
Extracurricular/Employment: I’m the Co-President
of War Child Mount Allison, and on the Exec for Team Fox, but I’m
also involved with WUSC, Positive Space, Shinerama, Relay for Life,
and the Skating Team. I’m the Academic Mentor for Campbell Hall
and the News Writer for the Argosy!
Why Mount A? To be honest, in grade 11 I had never
heard of Mount Allison. That year my parents decided to take a family
vacation, and to stay in university residences instead of hotels along
the way. I wound up staying at Mount Allison for a night, interviewing
for a spot in a science research camp, and spending a week here later
in the summer! The experience helped my decision to come to Mount A
immensely.
Favorite Mount A memory? The day we were putting the
final touches on setting up War Child Mount Allison. We had all trekked
through a blizzard to Bridge Street Café and had been meeting
for almost two hours when a snowplow spun out of control in the street,
less than 100m from the window. Needless to say, we decided shortly
afterwards to head home before we were snowed in.
What is your favorite place on campus? I love the Swan
Pond. But since it’s snowed under for a large chunk of the year,
there is also a secluded corner of the library that I love…
Which superpower do you think would be most helpful to have
at Mount A? While time control would be the most useful,
I think I would still be busy even if I controlled time. I would settle
for simply being able to read my professor’s minds to find out
EXACTLY what they wanted on those papers and labs…
Knowing you can do anything, what would you like to do? I
would love to be able to live my life combining all of the things that
I love. If I could travel all over the world, learn about different
cultures, help people, and mix in research of bizarre diseases, I would
be a happy.
Who do you respect most? I respect anyone who goes
out and acts for what they believe in.
What accomplishments are you most proud of? I don’t
know if there is any single thing that I could say I am most proud of.
My entire first year at Mount A — everything that I accomplished
last year are all things I am proud of.
How did you spend your summer vacation? I spent
my summer vacation working in the Communications office here at Mount
A. I got to write some articles, interview alumni and profs, meet
a senator; it was fun! I also helped get ready for Shinerama, and organized
a concert at Cranewood which was amazing!
What quality do you most admire in someone? Dedication
If you could tell one thing to everyone, what would it be? Caffeine
makes everything better. Coffee and tea are best comfort foods you will
ever find. Just trust me on this.
What do you like most about Mount Allison? I love how
easy it is to get involved here. Anybody and everybody can do almost
anything they put their mind to. It’s totally different than high
school in that respect; you can come up with an idea, and just run
with it!
What do you want to tell prospective Mount A Students? If
you come to Mount A, you will have the time of your life! You can get
really involved in your classes, and really involved in school life.
But make sure you always set aside some time to just hang out, relax,
and enjoy all the stuff you are doing. You will appreciate the university
experience so much more if you take some time to think about it as it
happens!
